LIVE CONSULTATIONS
We believe that the people most affected by decisions should have the strongest voice in shaping them.
This page brings together key national and local consultations that impact migrants, refugees, and our wider communities.
Here, you can learn what each consultation is about, why it matters, and how to take part.
Your voice is powerful -
and when our communities speak together, we shape policies that are fairer, safer, and rooted in lived experience.
Home Office Proposal –
“A Fairer Pathway to Settlement”
background
The Home Office has launched a national consultation on major changes to the UK settlement system —
Settlement refers to a person’s right to live in the UK permanently without any immigration restrictions.
It is also known as Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR).

who is affected
These changes would affect anyone who has not yet received ILR,
including refugees, people with limited leave to remain, families, care workers, students, and young people approaching 18.
what it will mean
The government is suggesting a complete overhaul of the settlement process.

These proposals could significantly delay people’s stability and make settlement harder to reach for many communities.
